Improved Method of Jhum cultivation programme

The production of Jhum rice has been increased of 991 kg per hectare in 2009-10 from the level of 690 kg/ ha in 1972.

Increasing productivity of rice

Successful seed replacement, increased irrigation potential, use of Bio fertilizer which support sustainable soil management and over all adoption of integrated crop Management practices including system of Rice Intensification (SRI), helped to increase the productivity rice from 978 kg/ha during 1971-72, to 2,607 kg/ha in 2009-10.

Bio-fertilizer production

Bio-fertilizer production has been increased from 1 ton in 1998 to 258 tons at the end of 2009-2010 in the state.

Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA)

Four district training institutes and Farm information and Advisory Centers have been established in four districts with one Agri Poly clinic at the State Headquarter in Arundhutinagar.

The state Agriculture Management and Extension training Institute (T-SAMETI) has been established at Lembucherra, Farmers schools were undertaken covering all major crops and Field days were conducted for dissemination of new technology to farmers.

Human Resource Development

College of Agriculture, Tripura was a long felt need for the state and the college has started functioning since 2007. The construction of college building with other amenities for staff and students in nearing completion.

  • Bringing additional 20,000 hectares area under Aush and Boro Paddy.

  • Area under Maize to be increased from 2,352 to 5,000 hectares in 2011-12.

  • Area under pulses to be increased from 7,385 to 12,500 hectares in 2011-2012.

  • Popularization of hybrid paddy in 10,000 hectares.

  • Introduction of improved Jhum cultivation.

  • Treatment of Acidic soils in and 65,000 hectares

  • Adequate use of, macro micro nutrients.

  • Increasing Farm mechanization.

  • Improving farmers skill and credit facility.

  • Market development.

  • Integrated farming approach and zero tillage for improving livelihood of forest dwellers.
